Let me start by asking a simple question: when was the last time you checked-in with YOU?
We live in a time where everyone is always so busy and overstimulated, we don’t pay nearly enough attention to ourselves.
As some of you may know, last year I decided to go back to school to become a certified health coach with the dream of helping others live healthier and more fulfilled lives, but what I didn’t expect was that the person I would be helping most was myself. Over the past year I’ve overcome a lot of issues that have been holding me back for years (e.g. binge eating, fear, guilt, and anger still stemming from my past).
How did I overcome these issues?
The first step was slowing down and taking a deliberate pause to ask myself how I was doing. How am I feeling? What are these headaches that I'm experiencing trying to tell me? Why do I feel the need to eat when I'm not hungry? And what in my life is causing me stress?
The coolest part about checking-in with how you’re feeling is that you can learn so much about yourself! So today I want you to focus on YOU. Whether it’s 5 minutes or an hour, I want you to take some time today to focus on how you’re feeling.
I want you to go somewhere where you know you won't be distracted, even if you have to lock yourself in your room for 10 minutes to get away from your kids! Turn your phone on silent. Sit with your feet planted flat on the ground, your back straight, and start by taking a few deep breaths. Then close your eyes and ask yourself the following questions:
- What is my body trying to tell me? Start from your head, and go down to your toes.
- Is there anything in my life at the moment that is causing me stress or that isn’t serving me? If so, remember that not all stressors are within your control, but some are. Listen to how you’re feeling and take control of the parts of your life that you can change.
